Agnew takes early lead in Douglas County District 2 Commissioner race

WATERVILLE—Preliminary results in the primary race for Douglas County Commissioner Position 2 show a three-way contest based on early counts available on August 6. Two-term commissioner Kyle Steinberg is not seeking reelection.

Randy Agnew (R) has 26.29 percent of the votes, while second and third place remain within less than a percentage point of each other.

Katie L. Shafer (R) has 22.67 percent, and Paula Lamanna (NP) has 22.19 percent.

Agnew has been Rock Island mayor for the past 8.5 years and has experience serving on many other county boards and agencies.

Shafer serves as a Douglas County Hospital District 2 commissioner and manages three branches of Umpqua Bank in Waterville, Brewster, and Oroville.

Lamanna is a therapeutic fitness specialist based in Rock Island and is the only independent candidate among the five competitors.

At this writing, 1,244 votes have been counted in the District 2 race. The next count is on August 9. The results will be certified on August 20.
