David Bruce Corbin was born on July 31, 1936, and passed away peacefully during his sleep on March 5, 2025. He was born in Port Angeles, WA, to Merritt and Helen Fleming Corbin.
He spent his early years in Port Angeles until the family moved to Forks, WA, when he was in the third grade. Dave graduated from Forks High School in 1954, where he worked on the school newspaper, starred in a school play, and served as student body president his senior year. After high school, he attended the University of Washington where he graduated in 1958, with a degree in Radio and TV Production. Following his graduation, Dave enlisted in the U.S. Army where he served from February 1959 to November 1962. He was stationed in Alaska and Tokyo and Okinawa, Japan. He spent most of his years in the military as a reporter/photographer for the Stars and Stripes newspaper.
After leaving the military, Dave returned to college, this time attending Central Washington University, where he received a degree in Social Studies and Education. Dave's first teaching job was in Nespelem, WA, where he taught fourth grade for four years. In January 1971, Dave met Katherine Meyer when she came to Nespelem with her college to help teach Spanish enrichment classes to the students there. The couple were married on September 18, 1971.
In 1973, they moved to Bridgeport where Dave taught fourth grade for many years and later, taught English as a Second Language and reading. After earning her degree, Kathy joined Dave teaching in the Migrant and Bilingual Education programs, so their partnership at home continued into their careers.
Dave retired in 1997, after suffering a minor stroke. After retiring, Dave spent much time working in the home and in the yard. He spent many enjoyable hours playing the piano and reading history books, especially those dealing with World War II and the Holocaust.
Dave and Kathy always started the mornings by reading the Bible followed by rounds of trivia questions, where they each tried to outperform the other. They were avid Seahawks fans and rarely missed watching a game on television. Dave used to say that watching Kathy cheer or yell at the team was almost more fun than watching the players.
Dave is survived by his wife, Kathy: sisters: Nancy Corbin and Sue Corbin (Tim Hill); brother, Paul Corbin (Cristina); and numerous nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.
A Ceremony of Life will be held at the Bridgeport High School Commons on April 12, 2025, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please donate to your favorite charity or consider a donation to the Seatt-le Children's Hospital, P.O.
