Mark Belton appointed Position 4 School Board Director

WENATCHEE — On April 3, the Wenatchee School Board held a special meeting to interview the four candidates who offered themselves up to fill a position on the Board that has been vacated by departing Director Miranda Skalisky.

Mark Belton was ultimately chosen from among the candidates during an executive session following the public meeting. He will be officially sworn in during the next regular School Board meeting on April 22.

Belton is not new to the education world, having worked in both the Shoreline and Eastmont School Districts. He also takes pride in his community involvement, serving on the boards of the Music Theatre of Wenatchee and Small Miracles.

His current job as a procurement and contract services supervisor for the Chelan County PUD makes him a welcome addition to the group, according to School Board President Tucker Jackson. “With his strategic planning and budgeting background from the PUD and his commitment to supporting both academics and extracurricular opportunities in the district, I think he will be able to hit the ground running and be a strong contributing member of the group.”

Belton was right where he wanted to be when he found out he’d been picked: “I received the news of my appointment while surrounded by friends and family. I am excited to support the future of Wenatchee schools.”

The appointment is to fill an unexpired term, which will end in November. At that point, it will be up for election again, and if Belton chooses to run again, it will be voters that elect him. Other candidates who would like to run for the position are encouraged to submit their candidacy between May 5–9 to the Chelan County Elections office. Positions 1 and 5 will also be up for election in November, with position 1 requiring a candidate living in the confines of the voting district and position 5 being an at-large position.
