EAST WENATCHEE — According to a press release from East Wenatchee Police Chief Eric Hampton, at approximately 8 p.m. on April 8, Medical Aid was dispatched to the 800 block of Garden Court Plaza just below Sterling Junior High for reports of a serious dog bite incident.
Other reports of citizens concerned about someone retrieving a gun to neutralize the dog resulted in officers from the East Wenatchee Police Department being dispatched to the scene as well.
When officers arrived, they found the male victim at a residence with severe dog bites on both arms. During the responding incident, the dog in question returned to the residence where the victim was inside and attacked him a second time.
Officers did everything possible to subdue the dog without harming it fatally, including deploying a Taser and a shotgun outfitted with less-than-lethal rounds used specifically for instances like this.
Unfortunately, the dog could not be subdued and continued to pose a threat to everyone nearby, resulting in the necessity of lethal force to end the crisis. The situation was then resolved without any further injury to any bystanders or to the original victim, who was then transported for medical care.
