Registration opens for second annual Summer Shred Bike Race

Posted

LEAVENWORTH — Mountain Sprouts Children's Community, a nonprofit nature-based early learning program, announced it will host the second annual Summer Shred kids and family bike race at Ski Hill on June 7.

The event, scheduled from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., builds on last year's inaugural race that raised $4,500 for scholarships. This year's Summer Shred will offer free registration for participants facing financial barriers, sponsored by Thriving Together NCW.

Organizers have expanded the event to include new bike racing courses for various skill levels, an adult and teen relay race, and free kid bike rentals with limited availability provided by title sponsor Eastside Cycleworks and Mountain Sprouts.

"We're excited to build on last year's success and help families connect with nature," said Angela Sucich, MSCC Fundraising Committee Co-Chair.

The day's activities will also feature a free bike clinic led by Evergreen Mountain Bike Alliance's Central Chapter, followed by a mini trail maintenance workshop. Non-riding activities will include face painting and bike decorating stations. A bike mechanic will be available on site at no cost, and free snacks will be provided with additional food available for purchase.

"This event has something for everyone, whether you're a regular biker or a first-time visitor to Ski Hill," said Executive Director Hannah Pick.

Corporate sponsors for the event include Eastside Cycleworks, Munchen Haus, Mountain Modern, Schocolat, KOA, Berkshire Hathaway, and Syndicate Smith.

Registration for the 2025 Summer Shred opened on Monday, April 7. Those interested in sponsorship, donation, or volunteer opportunities are directed to contact info@mtnsprouts.org. Additional information about the event can be found at www.mtnsprouts.org/summershred.
