Wenatchee School Board to interview four finalists for vacant director position

WENATCHEE—The Wenatchee School District has announced that the School Board will hold a special meeting on Thursday, April 3, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. to interview the four final candidates to fill the vacancy for Director of Position 4 on the Board.

The candidates who have made it to final consideration are:

• Mark Belton, a supervisor from Chelan County PUD and local stage and music theater director and producer;
• Alyssa S. Bones, a freelance writer and editor;
• Carrie A. Gavin, a Washington Developmental Disabilities Administration case manager;
• McLain Johnson, a fish biologist with the WA Department of Fish and Wildlife in Leavenworth.

The interviews begin at 5 p.m. at the Wenatchee School District Central Office, 235 Sunset Ave., or can be seen live-streaming on the District’s YouTube channel at https://www.youtube.com/@WenatcheeSchoolDistrict.

When the interviews have concluded, the Board will go into an Executive Session to discuss qualifications, and in a meeting expected to last about 30 minutes, the Board will appoint the new Director. The next regularly scheduled Board meeting on April 22 will see the newly-appointed Director finally sworn in.

This appointment is to temporarily fill a sudden vacancy. The next election, when voters will decide who should fill Position 4, will be in November. At that time, the election will determine who serves out the rest of retiring Director Miranda Skalisky’s term, which ends in November 2027. After that election, the office reverts to a standard 4-year position.

It is expected that whoever is appointed by the School Board in this special meeting will run for the elected position in November, but anyone may file their candidacy during the filing period of May 5–9, 2025.
