NCW Tech Alliance announces winners of 2024 AI Skill-A-Thon

WENATCHEE — The NCW Tech Alliance announced Tuesday the winners of its 2024 AI Skill-A-Thon, awarding over $10,000 in cash prizes sponsored by Microsoft.

The competition, part of the organization's Community Skills Initiative (CSI), ran from September 1 to September 30. 115 individuals from North Central Washington earned a total of 2,195 certificates.

Conrad Billman, Technology Program Manager at NCW Tech Alliance, said, "AI is transforming industries, and digital literacy is crucial for everyday tasks. By acquiring these skills, individuals can stay competitive, adapt to new roles, and improve their quality of life."

In the 16-24 age group, Kylah Hankins of Chelan County won first place, Spencer Rickel of Douglas County second, and Eric Hernandez of Grant County third.

For ages 25-49, Victor Godoy from Grant County took first place, Janelle Schmultzler of Chelan County second, Amber Parker of Douglas County third, and Kendal Ingraham of Okanogan County fourth.

In the 50 and older category, Terri Timpe and Rebecca Peltz of Chelan County won first and second places, David Barshes of Douglas County third, and Carmen Navarro of Grant County fourth.

The AI Skill-A-Thon offered free courses in artificial intelligence, sustainability, and digital skills through the CSI portal. The portal remains open year-round with free digital skills courses in English and Spanish.

NCW Tech Alliance will hold a reception for winners and participants on October 23 from 5:30 pm to 7 pm at Circle 5 Winery (Martin-Scott) in Wenatchee. The event is open to the public with registration on the organization's website at ncwtech.org/events.

The CSI website remains available as a resource for online training and upskill opportunities.
