Wenatchee names veteran officer Edgar Reinfeld as new Police Chief

WENATCHEE -- Mayor Mike Poirier announced the appointment of Captain Edgar Reinfeld as Wenatchee's new Chief of Police, pending City Council confirmation on July 11.

The appointment comes after a comprehensive recruitment process initiated in March following the retirement of former Chief Steve Crown. Reinfeld, a 22-year veteran of the Wenatchee Police Department, was selected after an extensive interview process and review of candidate feedback.

Reinfeld has served in various leadership roles during his tenure, alternating oversight of operations and administrative bureaus. His notable achievements include establishing a regional mental health field response team and collaborating with local organizations to create a Recovery Navigator Program for individuals with substance use disorders.

Reinfeld also spearheaded the department's transition to a centrally managed policy system and led efforts resulting in accreditation from the Washington Association of Sheriffs and Police Chiefs.

With a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration and advanced training from the Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission and FBI NW Command College, Reinfeld brings a wealth of experience to the role. He is also a 30-year U.S. Air Force Reserve veteran, currently serving as Chief Master Sergeant.

Mayor Poirier expressed confidence in the appointment, stating, "I am excited and proud to recognize Captain Reinfeld for his exceptional law enforcement career with Wenatchee through this appointment. Congratulations Chief Reinfeld, you've absolutely earned it."

The appointment marks a significant transition for the Wenatchee Police Department as it continues to address the evolving law enforcement needs of the community.
